Summer Field Schools of Anthropology, Archaeology and Ethnography

There are three field schools in H.A.S. (of Anthropology, Archaeology and Ethnography) that work in summer.
• The first one is based in the North of Moldova near the village of Novaya Tatarovka (Soroca district). Scientific-research objectives: studying of archaeological monument in Rudi-Arionesti-Novaya Tatarovka microzone, research of ethnical variety in this region. («Rudi – Maetonium: the stratigraphy of the region»);

• The second is on the territory of North-East Bulgaria in the region of Selistra. Scientific-research objectives: archaeological excavations of early Middle Ages monuments in the North-East of Bulgaria and research of diverse ethno-confessional groups of population traditions in this region («Discovery of Bulgaria» project);

• The third functions on the bank of Danube river in the village of Orlovka (Odessa region, Ukraine). Scientific-research objectives: field researches of the unique archaeological monument – multilayer site of ancient settlement Orlovka («Orlovka – dialogue of epochs and cultures» project).
Students have a general idea of the basics of field archaeological and ethnographical researches as the result of field school studies.


Laboratory of archaeological materials studies

Laboratory of archaeological materials office studies and storage work in H.A.S.. Materials gathered during H.A.S. expeditions in Moldova are kept in specially equipped storage. Collection includes 564 units of personal finds, 53 restored ceramic vessels, more than 30.000 units of mass material (ceramic fragments, bones, flint).
