Sergey I. Kovalenko
Born in 1960.
In 1983 graduated
from the Faculty of History, the State University of Kishinev.
In 1988 – probation
period at the transological and experimental researches laboratory,
Institute of Archaeology, the USSR Academy of Science. In
1990-1992 – postgarduate studies there – successful upholding
of the thesis on «Late Palaeolithic of Moldavian Dniester
regions (Problems of cultural genesis, labour instruments,
domestication)» in 1993.
From 1983 till 2000
– work at the Archaeological Department of the Institute of
archaeology, the Academy of Science, Republic of Moldova.
Since 2000 – member
of the National Museum of Moldova Archaeology and Ancient
History Department.
Participant of a
number of archaeological expeditions to the palaeolithic sites
in Cosouti, Climauti 2, Brinzeni; mesolithic sites in Sarateni,
Old Biliceni 12; neolithic site and burial place in Sacarovca
2, burial mounds in Dubasarii Vechi and Roscani; early Iron
Age site in Trinca, the Getian site of ancient settlement
Saharna la Revechin; Cherniakhov site in Bulboaca; Slavonic
site in Hansca; medieval town in Orheiul Vechi.
In 1993 participated
in international project on dating of cavernal palaeolithic
sites in Moldova, in 1996 – participant of Research Meso-Neolithic
sites within Moldo-German project in Northern Moldova .
Scientific Interests:
archaeology of the late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic of the
Carpathian-Dniester region.
Author of more than
30 scientific works.
Since 1999 member
of the High Anthropological School teaching staff.
Gives lectures on
History of Material Culture (Palaeolithic and Mesolithic),
History of civilizations (pre-history). |
